Don't F**k with Me

That's what the insurance company learned this week.  :)

After several hours spent in the ER receiving IV fluids, a diagnosis of a UTI probably caused by severe dehydration, and a serious threat from my boss* that our company would find a new insurance company to work with, I'm currently at home wired to an IV with fluids and a subcutaneous pump providing Zofran 24/7.  YAY!

My home health care nurse showed up yesterday evening and spent about 2 1/2 hours with me, going through the routine, checking vitals and setting up everything, plus teaching me how to do everything myself.  I had been pretty worried about the realities of the pump, as I'm not a huge fan of needles (who is).  Turns out, the pump set is realitively nothing to worry about, especially compared to the fact that I passed out and vomited when my nurse got my IV in.  It's always an adventure here, folks.

Hopefully, I'll start feeling better soon.  I replaced the IV bag this morning, but am not sure that I did it correctly, so I'll be calling the nurses' line to have someone talk me through it.

*Did I mention that I work for my family's company and that my boss is my dad?  That's right, insurance company, keep f**king with me, watch what happens.

you GO girl!!!! That is awesome!!! I hope you get to feeling better soon. spiking a new IV bag is pretty easy- unless you poke a hole or get a huge air bubble you are okay. :) Just rest and get better sweet cheeks.

I am proud of you, and am sending up prayers.

Jendeis, got here windy road from Kari (thoughts-preserved) but I have two young friends who both went through what you are; they were both admitted to the hospital for dehydration (so that might be the answer - though I'm not sure they were worse than you - maybe because you don't already have an OB; they both did); were diagnosed with hyperemesis, a quite serious condition; one at least was sent home (actually she went to her mother's to stay until she was through with all that) with home health and IV (I don't remember anything being said about a pump and her mom is out-of-state right now but I could ask her if you'd like); don't know if any of that had anything to do with insurance; their husbands both had pretty good, I think, but I do wonder about the OB thing with the insurance, though. I understand your concern, though I'm not sure I quite understand the local hospital's stand unless they're fairly small in which case could they not just send you somewhere larger or are they concerned it's too far. That's what they did with my daughter-in-law who is overweight and did not have to have a C-section (though, she, too, is losing weight while pregnant, which I understood is not actually a bad thing if you're overweight - it's just the dehydration that's so serious) Hop this helps
