Father's Day - Aidez Moi!

So, for those who haven't seen TV, radio or the inside of a CVS lately, Father's Day is on Sunday. I have no idea of what to get my dad, so I'm likely going to go with an oldie-but-goodie, the spy novel.

This spy novel must have at least one of the following on its cover (or something similar): a) hammer and sickle, b) crescent moon, c) swastika, d) bald eagle, e) American flag. Any book containing two or more of these symbols is definitely a winner.

The enemy that only one man can defeat in this novel must be one of the following (or something similar): a) Russian, b) Nazi, c) non-descript Middle Eastern country terrorist, e) deranged American military personnel.

My problem? My dad seems to have read everything all ready, so I'm looking for author/book suggestions. Authors my dad loves: Vince Flynn, Daniel Silva, Brad Thor, Robert Ludlum, David Baldachi, Lee Childs.

I buy my dad clothes, so I can't help with books. If we don't buy my dad clothes for presents, he wears all his clothes until they have holes and fall off. If it is a gift, he feels obligated to wear them. He's still wearing some shirts that I got him, oh, ten, fifteen years ago.

And, darn it, I knew Father's Day was close, but not this close! Yikes. At least I haven't gotten my birthday presents yet from my parents, so I have that as an excuse.

Has he read any John LeCarre? His books are a bit old (as in, written in the 70s and 80s), but if your Dad likes stuff with Russians, all of LeCarre's books are in the Cold War era, so there are Russians galore. His first book is Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

I also have a good suggestion for Russian/Cold War stuff. Nelson DeMille: Charm School.

I was reading it on vacation (honeymoon?) and my husband just read the title and made fun of it. I looked at him and said something like: It's a cold war spy novel about a training camp where US prisoners train Russians to be American. He was impressed. I am not sure how he missed the requisite hammer/sickle combo on the front.

No good ideas. But I can relate. Buying stuff for my Dad is impossible.

You could try Andy McNab - an ex British special forces guy who now writes derring-do novels?

Thank you for coming by my blog as part of NaComLeavMo - it is much appreciated.

My dh likes Clive Cussler novels. He compares them to James bond storylines. Bad guys, action adventure, a hero named Dirk Pitt or Kurt Austin. (more cliche than chick lit if you ask me)
