This Is How We Do It

Instead of responding to Trace's comment on her blog, I thought I'd post about it. Trace asked me how John Dear and I manage to have a new dinner every night, rather than leftovers. Here's our secret:

John Dear and I are both large people. (shh).

I get the Dream Dinners meals with 6 servings. John Dear and I will eat 2 servings a piece at dinner, and then one person gets the last 2 servings for lunch the next day. If there happen to be more leftovers, then both people get lunch the next day.

If I'm just planning to cook our own meals, then I usually get just enough for that 1 meal. If there are leftovers, we use them for lunch, or I try to incorporate them in other meals. For example, leftover spaghetti becomes a side dish, rather than an entrée; cooked chicken breast gets sliced and thrown over a salad for lunch.

I'm not a huge proponent of freezing leftovers: one, because JD hates leftovers anyways and two, because we usually go through leftovers pretty quickly.

We don't do leftovers either. Matt can't stand eating the same thing over again so soon. I sometimes reuse a bit, but for the most part, I have just gotten good at cooking what I know we can eat.

I have a special place in my heart for people who can repurpose leftovers and freeze meals in advance and such. I always cook to much and it goes bad :(

Uh I have to admit we do leftovers here. BUT i always change em up a bit like you- making an entree a side dish or incorporating the food into a another new dish. So you order your dinners each day? Cool.

I have become the queen of frozen leftovers. Most times, out of laziness, I double our recipes so that I can freeze the rest for another meal. No leftovers in the refigerator here!

My Hubby is terrible about eating left overs. It is hard to make a full meal (entree, couple of sides) for just two people without ending up with a TON leftover.

We don't really do leftovers either. But maybe that's because I never make anything good enough to warrant saving!
